After the First African Regional Summit and Exhibition on Visual Arts, ARESUVA, at the International Conference Centre, Abuja, in September, 2008, the African Union, AU, invited the National Gallery of Art for a presentation on the event at a Roundtable of African Cultural Institutions on October 17, 2008, in Algiers, the capital city of Algeria. This was followed by an Experts' Meeting on the 19th and 21st, and then the African Ministers of Culture Meeting on 23rd and 24th October, 2008. The National Gallery of Art made an impressive presentation on ARESUVA. This led to the endorsement of ARESUVA by the African Union and being listed by the AU in the African Union Calendar of Cultural Events. The National Gallery of Art delegation was led by Dr. Aliyu Idi Hong, the then Honourable Minister of State, Federal Ministry of Tourism, Culture and National Orientation.
