OBJECTIVES

The 2nd African Regional Summit and Exhibition on Visual Arts (ARESUVA) 2009 is designed towards the promotion of Visual Arts as a strategy for achieving rapid economic development in the African Region as envisioned in New Partnership for African Development (NEPAD).

 

Perspective On Development

 

1. To identify and highlight in practical terms effective development programmes that can be nurtured, institutionalized and promoted as models of partnerships among African Countries, the organized private sector, International Agencies, NGOs, International Business community and the civil society.

 

2. To encourage the private and public sectors develop partnerships to fund the Visual Arts sub-sector for it to be a major player in the economic life of the African region as it is in other advanced countries.

 

3. To address the various sectoral impediments to the development of the Visual Arts in the African region.

 

4. To encourage the private and informal sectors, civil society and donor organizations on the need to work together with African Governments as a broad-based economic development strategy for improving the Visual Arts sub-sector.

 

5. To sensitize all major stakeholders in the sub-sector on the need for speedy development of this sub-sector as a major contributor to the GDP of African countries.

 

6. The African Regional Summit and Exhibition on Visual Arts will bring together around 1,500 leaders in business, politics, media, government and the creative industry from Africa to discuss the key issues shapening the sector.

 

7. Help African countries to better understand how to harness their creative and cultural resources around sustainable tourism and how to attract attention and get on the global radar.

 

8. Provide a solid base of feedback and foresight to inform policy makers into the future of the Visual Arts.

 

9. Create networks and associations which will provide platforms for subsequent and ongoing discussion and contributions to policy formulation and initiatives.

 

10· An opportunity to coordinate development efforts and endeavours towards the regeneration of African economies by investing in creative industries, cultural tourism all geared towards transforming African countries' economies by changing income generation focus.
